Private Land Forestry

Ontario's northern and southern regions vary in ownership, forest connectivity, population, economic opportunities and use of natural resources. The dominance of private ownership of land in southern Ontario versus northern Ontario is of great significance to how management planning and activities affect these regions. Landowners play a crucial role in managing and protecting our environment. The role of private woodlot owners in the south, with a high population density and great urban expansion, bears a considerable impact on the ecological health and economic viability of the landscape.

Forest land in particular contributes a wide range of ecological goods and services, from wildlife habitat to carbon storage. Knowing how to balance your own management objectives within a context of the environment and community around you can be a considerable challenge.

The Ontario Forestry Association offers many resources to help landowners manage their forest land. Check out some of the links below or call us with your questions at 1-800-387-0790.
